Last night’s GQ Awards featured a reunion we’ve been waiting for ever since we saw them part ways back in April.
Yes, we’re obviously talking about Fleabag and the Hot Priest. Or, at least, the actors who play them.
Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Andrew Scott were both in attendance at the event, where she presented him with the award for the Hugo Boss Stand-Out Performance, thanks to his critically acclaimed Fleabag role.
Andrew actually dedicated his win to Phoebe, saying: “I think like all great artists, she’s incredibly. She wrote this male character with a huge amount of protectiveness and complexity and sensitivity.
“When we first talked about doing Fleabag together we wanted to talk about the extraordinary way love manifests itself in the world, and I’m just so thrilled that the world has been able to see Phoebe’s qualities.”
He also said he hopes their friendship continues “for the rest of our lives because I love you so much”.
Before the most recent series of Fleabag, Andrew revealed that he and Phoebe had been pals ever since appearing in a play together in London, telling HuffPost UK: “she gave me a call out of the blue last summer.
“I knew it was about Fleabag, and we went and had a big catch-up and a three-and-a-half-hour walk around Soho.
“She talked about the character and we talked about where we were in our lives, and what we thought about religion and love and all that kind of stuff, and the character that was forming in her mind. It was a very special, memorable day.”
However, these GQ Awards photos are probably the closest thing we’re going to get to a full-on reunion between Phoebe and Andrew, as she previously said she feels like she’s “done” with the show.
“She went on the biggest journey over the past two seasons, and she started as someone who sort of hated herself and ended up as someone believing that she could love again and forgive herself,” Phoebe told The Hollywood Reporter. “I have to respect that arc and let her go and live for a bit.”
Andrew did recently say that he’d be up for appearing in a third series of Fleabag if Phoebe were to ask him, though, telling Digital Spy: “Listen, I’ll be there whatever she wants me to do.”
