A fire that closed part of the M3 in Hampshire overnight and destroyed a restaurant, reportedly started in a coffee machine.

More than 50 firefighters attended the blaze at Fleet services which started around 10.30pm Wednesday and led to police closing the southbound carriageway of the M3.

A Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “It started in one of the restaurants in the services and it spread from there, but we have stopped it from spreading throughout the whole building.”
