Kit Harington Claims Game Of Thrones ‘Kind Of Screwed The Political Landscape’ Ahead Of Series Return

He thinks one character in particular has provided a little too much inspiration for world leaders.

Kit Harington has made a bold claim about the power of Game Of Thrones, quipping that the show has “kind of screwed the political landscape”.

The British actor, who plays Jon Snow in the hit series, made his comment during an appearance on Tuesday’s The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, just hours after the first trailer for the eighth and final series was revealed.

Elaborating on his comment, he said certain politicians – not naming any names – may have taken inspiration from King Joffrey, a tyrannical ruler who is cruel to his subjects.

“I just felt like certain political figures tried to emulate Joffrey and things went a bit wrong,” he explained.

The series will return next month (in 39 days’ time, to be exact) and HBO has been extremely defensive when it comes to keeping the plot details a closely-guarded secret, so Kit was obviously forbidden from saying a word.

Admitting it was difficult to stop himself from dishing the dirt, Kit added that he used to try and guess what would happen each season.

“I had theories all along and all of them were wrong,” he laughed. “I’m quite glad I never told anyone my theories.”

Within minutes of its release, the Game Of Thrones series eight trailer was trending on Twitter, as fans rushed to discuss what the clip revealed.

It opens with a shot of Arya Stark – who looks terrified for the first time in a while, which is worrying – as she says: “I know death. He’s got many faces. I look forward to seeing this one.”

The second of the clip’s voiceovers is provided by Kit’s character Jon, who talks about the upcoming fight against the Army Of The Dead.

“They’re coming our enemy doesn’t tire, doesn’t stop, doesn’t feel,” he says. “I promised to fight for the living. I intend to keep that promise.”
