Strictly Come Dancing’s HRVY has downplayed rumours of a relationship with fellow contestant Maisie Smith.

The pair have been the subject of speculation in the tabloid press that they’ve hit it off romantically since the series kicked off last month, despite Covid protocols on the show preventing them from mixing.

But while HRVY has insisted there’s nothing currently going on between him and the EastEnders star, he stopped short of ruling anything out in the future.

Speaking to new! magazine, the singer explained that it “wouldn’t be the right time for anything”.

“We’re just friends. I’m here to dance and have a good time,” he said.

“You can’t see anyone but your partner anyway, so it wouldn’t be the right time for anything.

“But Maisie’s a great girl and she’s very beautiful.”

During an appearance on Tuesday’s edition of Lorraine, the ITV presenter also pressed him on the matter, but HRVY gave a similar response.

“Lorraine you know I’d tell you the truth,” he said.

“We are just friends, we’re just dancing, she’s a very lovely girl, talented and beautiful, but at the moment we’re focusing on the dancing.”

Both HRVY and Maisie have proven to be early favourites in this year’s Strictly Come Dancing, each having topped the leaderboard in the last three weeks.

However, last week’s movie special saw Good Morning Britain presenter Ranvir Singh come out on top with a Dreamgirls-themed Foxtrot.

Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday at 7.10pm on BBC One, while Lorraine airs weekdays at 9am on ITV.
