Shoppers are being urged to return a range of hummus products to supermarkets over fears they are contaminated with salmonella.
Zorba Delicacies is recalling as many as 83 different types of hummus product as a “precautionary measure” over fears they’ll cause food poisoning – symptoms of which include fever, diarrhoea, vomiting and abdominal cramps.
The supplier said point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores selling the products, which include hummus from Aldi’s The Deli brand, Lidl’s Meadow range, Sainsbury’s On The Go range and Asda’s Extra Special range.
People who have purchased these products are advised not to eat them and should instead return them to the store where they were purchased from, where they will be offered a full refund.

If salmonella bacteria enters the body (through consuming a product, for example), it can produce toxins and attack the cells lining the intestine, causing nasty symptoms.
Salmonella infection can be life-threatening for the very young, the very old and for people already weakened by other serious diseases, according to Safe Food. In some cases, it can cause hospitalisation.
The Food Standards Agency said no other Zorba Delicacies Limited products are known to be affected.
