John Bercow complained about the “sea of men” trying to ask questions in the Commons on Tuesday as he sought out a female MP.
As business secretary Greg Clark gave a statement to parliament on corporate governance, the Speaker was keeping his eye out for a woman to quiz the cabinet minister.

Of the 650 MPs, just 191 are women.
Bercow told the Commons: “I just observe in passing, there is undiluted sea of men seeking to catch the eye of the chair. If a female member were to stand she would be called at the moment there isn’t so she won’t.”
As he spoke, Conservative MP Victoria Atkins obliged.
