John Cleese has spoken about his decision to quit the UK, claiming he is “fed up with the corruption” in this country.

The ‘Fawlty Towers’ actor had previously revealed he is moving to the Caribbean, and said he would now only be tempted to return if there were political reform.

Speaking on ‘Good Morning Britain’, he said: “I’m going to buzz off in November because I’m fed up with the corruption in this country.”

He continued: “I can’t get through the British winter anymore. Once you get to about 50 you don’t have the energy to drag yourself through another English winter.”

Speaking out on the current political climate of the UK, he said: “When we get proportional representation and when we get Leveson to implement it, then I shall be delighted to come back.

“Then we can actually do something, because this country is in a terrible mess at the moment.”

On how he believed the country would fare in the wake of Brexit, John said: “I don’t think anybody has the slightest idea what’s going to happen after Brexit.

“I’m one of those people who doesn’t particularly think the EU is a good thing, but whether we should be in or out I’ve no idea because I’ve no idea what the consequences are.”

John said his move to the Caribbean would allow him to be “closer to America where most of my work is”, but said he wouldn’t want to live there as “the place is stark staring mad”.

He added of current President Donald Trump: “The first time that Trump has ever spoken to an intelligent audience that wasn’t dependent on his patronage was at the United Nations General Assembly two or three days ago when they laughed at him.”

‘Good Morning Britain’ airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
