The Prodigy have cancelled all of their upcoming gigs and festival appearances, in light of the shock death of frontman Keith Flint.

The remaining members of the band paid tribute shortly after the sad news was confirmed, writing on Twitter: “It is with deepest shock and sadness that we can confirm the death of our brother and best friend Keith Flint. A true pioneer, innovator and legend. He will be forever missed.”

Following this, they used the same Twitter account to announce the cancellation of this summer’s gigs, simply writing: “Following the tragic death of Keith Flint all forthcoming Prodigy shows will be cancelled with immediate effect.”

The Prodigy had been due to go on their own tour in the US and perform at festivals around the world, with a headline slot at London event SW4 set to take place in August.

The Glastonbury 2019 line-up is yet to be announced, but posting on Instagram in the wake of Keith’s death, organiser Emily Eavis revealed they had been booked to play.

“We are so saddened to hear the news about the passing of Keith Flint,” she wrote. “He’s played here so many times over the years with the Prodigy and was booked to play this year. “What an incredible frontman, he gave us all so much life and energy.

“Here’s a clip from ’97 when they became the first dance band to headline Glastonbury - a huge moment for us which we will never forget.”

Other famous faces to pay tribute included Jo Whiley, Boy George and Professor Green, who joined with fans around the world in commending the band on their fantastic live sets.

“In 2009 I saw you at Brixton Academy which for me, was the best gig I’d ever seen, and still is till this day,” wrote rapper Professor Green. “I said to myself that day I wanted to sell it out, and as you did, have the crowd up in arms from the front row all the way to the back of the upper circle.”
