Lewis Capaldi might be on his way to becoming one of the wealthiest men in music, but he is still wanting a cut of ex-girlfriend Paige Turley’s prize money if she wins Love Island.

The singer has finally broken his silence after his ex was revealed as one of the contestants, joking that she is only on the show because of their relationship.

During an interview with New Zealand radio hosts Dom and Meg for The Edge, Lewis addressed Paige’s appearance on the ITV2 show, admitting it would have been nice for him to have had some prior warning about her being an Islander.

Lewis explained: “She never told me she was going on it. It would have been a nice heads up! But, I mean, fair play, good luck to her.”

He also insisted he will be watching the show and cheering her on to win.

“The prize is £50,000, and I’ll be like ’Well, listen, they asked you to go on it, right? I’m not saying I’m the reason but also … slide me two grand,” he continued.

Of their romance, he added: “I’ve known her for years. I was 18 when we first met, 19 when we started going out and 20 when we finished going out.

“It was very amicable, the split.”

It has been rumoured Lewis wrote hit song Someone You Loved about Paige, but she remained coy about the link during an interview with HuffPost UK prior to entering the villa.

She said: “Lewis has actually never said to me those songs are about you.

“People can relate to his music, but I don’t actually know. You’d have to ask Lewis.”

Lewis and Paige have remained close since their split, and Paige revealed they still see one another when his hectic schedule permits.

She added was not shocked to see how successful Lewis has become over the last 18 months.

“Even through college before we got together and even when we did get together, I always kept saying to him, ‘It’s a matter of time’,” she said.

“Everyone that’s seen Lewis perform or heard his music, it was just a case of when.

“He’s such a talented writer. So it was no surprise.”

Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2.
