My Little Pony Introduces Same-Sex Pony Couple – Just In Time For Pride Month

"It just felt like something important to do."

Kids’ TV show My Little Pony will soon introduce a same-sex couple: Aunt Holiday and Auntie Lofty.

The characters will feature in the final season of the show – My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic – and can be watched by families on Netflix.

The couple will be introduced on the episode “The Last Crusade”, where they take care of the young character Scootaloo.

“Nicole [co-producer] and I thought this was a great opportunity to organically introduce an LGBTQ couple in the series, and we asked Hasbro and they approved it,” writer and producer Michael Vogel told Buzzfeed News.

“My Little Pony has always been about friendship and accepting people (or ponies) that are different from you. So it just felt like something important to do.”

Vogel added on Twitter that the episode coinciding with Pride wasn’t done on purpose, but said: “It’s coincidence that seems like it was meant to be.”
