Nottingham Cattle Market: Huge Fire Rips Through Site As 8 Fire Engines Tackle Blaze

'The whole area is filling with smoke'.

Firefighters have been tackling a huge fire in Nottingham’s former cattle market as the flames could be seen for miles around.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue said four buildings are on fire at the site off Meadow Lane, which is close to the Nottingham County football ground.

Residents near the site, now a business estate, have been asked to keep their windows and doors closed. Their are no reports of casualties.

Livestock was reportedly last sold at the cattle market in 1993. The site includes a number of businesses, including Arthur Johnson and Sons Auctioneers.

The brigade tweeted: “We currently have 8 fire engines plus an aerial ladder at a fire in Cattle Market off Meadow Lane, Nottngham. Four buildings involved. Will bring you more information as we have it from the scene.

“People living close to the Meadows/Meadow Lane area are asked to keep doors and windows closed as we continue to fight a large fire in the Cattle Market. Please also avoid the area if possible.”
