Police Investigate ‘Suspicious Packages’ at Waterloo Station, Heathrow and London City Airport

It is not known if the incidents are linked.

Police in London have responded to three security alerts at two airports and a railway station in the capital today.

British Transport Police were called to Waterloo Station at 11.40am following reports of a suspicious package. The item is currently being assessed by specialist teams behind cordons.

A spokesman said: “Train services continue to operate as normal at this time.”

Meanwhile officers from the Met were called to incidents at London City Airport and Heathrow Airports.

The package at a building close to Heathrow was “made safe” this morning and London City Airport was evacuated as a precaution.

Enquiries are ongoing though flights have not been delayed. Road and DLR access to London City Airport were temporarily suspended, though walking access was not affected.

It is not yet known if any of the incidents are linked.

Some 80.1 million passengers used Heathrow in 2018, while 4.87 million travelled through London City. Waterloo is Britain’s busiest train station with 99.4million journeys a year.

Due to a police incident, the DLR is currently suspended to London city airport as well as all road access to the airport. Walking access to the airport is still possible.
