President Obama made fun of Donald Trump on Sunday evening following reports the Republican’s campaign aides had wrestled control of his Twitter account away from him.
“Apparently, his campaign has taken away his Twitter,” Obama told a Hillary Clinton rally in Florida. “In the last two days, they had so little confidence in his self-control, that they said, ‘We’re just going to take away your Twitter’.
“Now if someone can handle a Twitter account, they can’t handle the nuclear codes. If somebody starts tweeting at 3 in the morning because SNL [Saturday Night Live] made fun of you, then you can’t handle the nuclear codes.”
Trump has frequently peppered his campaign with 3am tweets - usually targeting political opponents. The habit is said to have frustrated his campaign staff.
The New York Times reported yesterday that Trump’s aides had, finally, managed to convince him to hand over control of his account.
