RuPaul’s Drag Race fans patiently awaiting the second UK series have been gifted a special treat to tide them over – a new spin-off.

The queens from the first British run will feature in fly-on-the-wall docu-series God Shave The Queens, following them on their UK tour last year.

The BBC Three show picks up just a few days after The Vivienne was crowned the UK’s First Drag Race Superstar, with her fellow competitors reuniting to begin rehearsals for their jaunt.

The BBC has said the series will give fans the chance to take a genuine look behind the curtain and get know queens including Baga Chipz, Divina DiCampo and Vinegar Strokes even more, with plenty of high jinks, sisterly camaraderie and good, old-fashioned shade.

RuPaul said in a statement: “I’m so delighted to send my first court of British queens out to the four corners of the realm - spreading their message of light, love and laughter, and sharing their sweet sensitive souls with the people.”

Fiona Campbell, controller of BBC Three, added: “This series is a peek under the wigs to see what happens after the Drag Race curtain comes down. Our British Queens have gone down in RuPaul ‘herstory’ and this series is a reminder of why we loved them so much in series one and shows us what it takes to be at the top of the game.”

The British version of the hit US reality competition launched last year, with a second run originally scheduled for the autumn.

However, like many other TV shows, it was thrown into chaos when production was shut down halfway through filming due to the coronavirus pandemic in March.

Speaking at the virtual Edinburgh TV Festival in August, Campbell revealed plans were afoot to get the rest of the series back on track, with hopes to complete filming before the end of the year.

God Shave The Queen will debut as an eight-part series on BBC iPlayer in early November.
