Dr Ranj Singh has become the sixth celebrity to leave this year’s ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The ‘This Morning’ medic left the BBC ballroom competition during Sunday’s results show after facing ‘Casualty’ actor Charles Venn in the dance-off.
Dr Ranj and his partner Janette Manrara performed their Samba to ‘Freedom 90’ by George Michael in a bid to impress the judges, while Charles and partner Karen Clifton did their Viennese Waltz to ‘Piano Man’ by Billy Joel.
Head Judge Shirley Ballas was given the casting vote, after Darcey Bussell and Bruno Tonioli chose to save Charles and Karen, while Craig Revel Horwood chose to save Dr Ranj and Janette.
She called it a “heart-breaking decision”, explaining: “I think both couples have done amazingly well. Both couples have made little iddy-biddy errors that I can see but due to great timing, sophistication I am going to choose Charles and Karen.”
After the result was announced, Dr Ranj told host Tess Daly: “I can’t express how much this has meant to me. I have made friends for life. I’ve done something that I only could have dreamed of. I just want to say to anyone who ever dreams of this you can, you really can, ’cause I’m here and I’ve done it.”
Janette added: “I just want to say he is an incredible human being for what he does as an actual job. He is there saving children’s lives and he is a special, special man.
“On this show you get to celebrate people that have never done something like this before and for me Ranj is the epitome about what Strictly Come Dancing is about. I couldn’t have asked for a better friend, a better partner or better series I love you so so much. Thank you.”
Saturday’s show had seen Danny John-Jules actually score the lowest with only 22 points for his Quickstep, while Kate Silverton was only slightly ahead with 23 points for her Argentine Tango. However, both were saved thanks to the public vote
