Strictly Come Dancing has understandably had to implement many changes amid the coronavirus pandemic, but there was one new element on Saturday night’s show viewers could not agree on.
The first live show saw the introduction of a new slow-motion replay of each couple’s dance to cover a moment that can’t be as euphoric as usual.
Under normal circumstances, after being critiqued each couple would dash up the stairs as the studio audience applaud, before being greeted by Claudia Winkleman and the other dancers to receive their scores.
But with Claudia having to host her segments in her so-called ‘Clauditorium’ alone and a much reduced studio audience, bosses had to come up with a way to cover the lack of atmosphere.
However, the action replay of the couple’s dance proved to be a strange introduction for many viewers...
But others pointed out that they would become less jarring over time, and might even prove to be useful as the weeks roll on...
During Saturday night’s live show, HRVY and Janette Manrara were awarded a nine from judge Motsi Mabuse as they took to the floor for their first competitive performance.
The judge hailed it as “the best first dance I have ever seen....ever ever ever!”, across the show’s many international editions, with the couple coming top of the leaderboard with 25 out of 30.
Elsewhere, there was success for EastEnders star Maisie Smith, who picked up 24 points for her dancefloor debut.
