The Bay Episode 2: 7 Burning Questions We Now Have

A new suspect has entered the frame for the disappearance of the Meredith twins.

ITV’s latest drama The Bay got off to an intriguing start last week, as it explored the disappearance of two teenage twins, and how the family liaison officer working on the case had unwittingly become intertwined with it.

With the father, Shaun Meredith, arrested on suspicion of murder of his son Dylan at the end of episode one, there was a lot to follow up with as we headed back to the coastal town of Morecambe on Wednesday night.

However, as with most shows like this, there was soon a fresh suspect whose actions and movements were put under the microscope.

Here are the questions we’ve been left asking this week...

ITV

What did Jess’ mum mean when she said Shaun was “no angel” and that she “didn’t trust him”?

While she caveated this by saying he loved the twins and would never hurt them when speaking to Lisa about their disappearance, she was not exactly full of praise for her son-in-law. But what has he been up to in order to annoy her so much?

What was Shaun really doing at the suspected trafficking house?

The time Shaun was missing for on the night of the twins’ disappearance was accounted for when CCTV picked him up visiting a house that police suspect was being used for trafficking, where Shaun’s colleague Christoph also lives.

When Lisa paid a visit to the property, Christoph’s wife Hannah claimed she had been having an affair with Shaun, but something about her story didn’t ring true to us – were they up to something much worse?

ITV

Who is messaging Lisa’s son and what are they up to?

Rob was sent a text saying “clock’s ticking”, before he was later seen stealing a bottle of vodka from the corner shop while filming it. Later, he received another message asking him if he was up for another challenge, having been praised by a group of people online.

What exactly is Rob involved in, and who is the person instructing him to do things?

ITV

What has Vincent got planned for Abbie?

We initially believed the builder was grooming Lisa’s daughter, but Vincent insisted he wasn’t interested in her in that way. However, he later asked her to deliver a package of drugs to a boy called Wilko who goes to her school. Is he planning to manipulate her into becoming a drug mule, or do his plans extend beyond that?

ITV

Who is Wilko?

The explicit mentions to this so far unknown character, who has been receiving drugs, mean he’s surely bound to be significant later on.

Did Nick kill Dylan?

With Nick Moonie seemingly attempting to do a runner after being released pending further investigation, he’s currently prime suspect for Dylan’s murder – especially as he and Dylan were pictured having an argument on the night of his disappearance. Not to mention the fact Nick was later seen on CCTV heading in the direction of where Dylan’s body was found.

However, as with Broadchurch, we’re expecting the finger of blame to point in the direction of many different locals we are introduced to over the coming episodes, before finding out who is really behind this all. So we reckon it’s probably safe to cross him off the list for now.

ITV

Has Shaun now killed Nick?

Anyway, the police might not even get the chance to question Nick again, as the end of the episode saw Shaun waiting outside his house, before following him as he set out into the night on his bike.

With anger in his eyes, it definitely looked like Shaun had every intention of mowing Nick down, but will he survive to tell the tale?

The Bay continues next Wednesday at 9pm on ITV.
