Tom Hanks Shares Reassuring Health Update After Being Diagnosed With Coronavirus

Tom Hanks has given fans a reassuring update after he and his wife Rita Wilson were diagnosed with coronavirus.

Earlier this month, the Oscar-winning actor revealed he and Rita had tested positive for Covid-19 while out in Australia, where he had been filming on Baz Luhrmann’s upcoming Elvis Presley biopic.

After receiving treatment in hospital, the pair then entered self-isolation in Australia, with Tom assuring the world they “feel better” two weeks after first experiencing symptoms.

He wrote: “Two weeks after our first symptoms and we feel better.

“Sheltering in place works like this: You don’t give it to anyone – you don’t get it from anyone. Common sense, no?”

“Going to take [a while], but if we take care of each other, help where we can, and give up some comforts… this, too, shall pass,” Tom added.

“We can figure this out.”

Since Tom and Rita first went public with their diagnosis, a number of other high-profile stars have revealed that they too have tested positive for coronavirus, including Idris Elba, James Bond actor Olga Kurylenko and former daytime TV presenter Fiona Phillips.

Idris specifically said that seeing Tom and Rita’s announcement inspired him to share the fact that he’d also been diagnosed with Covid-19.

“I’m really proud of Tom Hanks, who is also someone in the public eye, who came out and said they have it and been public about it,” the Luther star said during a live-stream Q&A on Twitter. “I was definitely motivated by Tom’s move there.”
