The number of people who have died in the UK after testing positive for coronavirus has risen to 41,481 – an increase of 202 over 24 hours.
Since the end of April, the government’s daily announcement has included people in care homes and the community, rather than just in hospital, who have died.
But only those who had tested positive for Covid-19 are included, meaning anyone who died with a suspected case won’t be recorded.
The figures cover the period up to 5pm on Thursday.
It comes after the number of people who have died in hospitals across the UK, as well as care homes in Wales, after contracting the virus rose by 84 in 24 hours.
That increase consisted of 70 in England, three in Scotland, 10 in Wales and one in Northern Ireland.
NHS England said patients who died were aged between 24 and 102 years old. Three patients, aged between 78 and 102, had no known underlying health conditions.
Meanwhile, as of 9am on Friday, 6,434,713 tests have been carried out. The number of people tested will be significantly lower than this figure, as many patients are tested more than once.
A total of 292,950 people have tested positive for the virus since the start of the outbreak.
