Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? Contestant Ducks Out Of Final Question – Would You Have Known The Answer?

He still walked away with a whopping half a million, though.

For the first time since Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? returned to our screens last year, a contestant has made it all the way to the end of the quiz.

In Monday night’s episode, teacher John Robinson made it to the 15th and final stage of the show.

But with no lifelines, he decided not to risk the million pound question, after being asked to pick which of four former prime ministers had not also served as foreign secretary.

However, he was unable to choose between Winston Churchill, Anthony Eden, Harold Macmillan and Alec Douglas-Home, so chose to bow out of the quiz.

Do you know the answer? We’ll reveal it below this picture...

It’s A: Winston Churchill.

The former prime minister was in Number 10 for a total of nine years, also serving as home secretary.

Teacher John can still proudly hold his head up high, though, as with a cash prize of £500,000, he’s still the biggest winner Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? has had since Jeremy Clarkson brought the show back in 2018.

Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? originally ran for 16 years with Chris Tarrant as its host, first airing in 1998 and airing for the last time in 2014.

During that period, five separate winners took home the top prize of £1 million, not including Charles Ingram, who was accused of cheating his way to the win, and found guilty of “procuring the execution of a valuable security by deception”.

The first of these was Judith Keppel, who later went on to join the team of Eggheads on the BBC quiz show of the same name.

Ingram Wilcox was the most recent winner, scooping the £1 million prize in 2006.
