Having created and sold new baby gifts for over ten years I am probably second only to midwives and registrars in having current insights to baby name trends and fashion in real time. As part of my job at Babyblooms, I check the spelling and layout of all gift messages to ensure that the gift cards which accompany all of the new baby gifts convey the sentiments of customers as they intend.
Whilst we know names are influenced by celebrities (remember the popularity of Kylie...) and new babies from those celebrities, the most notable new arrival has been Princess Charlotte, with many girls born this year being named after our new princess. However, popular boys names in 2015 seem to have been influenced by our love of the British Royal especially Prince Charles with Charlie being the number one boy name we have seen in 2015.

One other name trend worth noting is a revival of names that proved popular in the first twenty years of the twentieth century, although it seems parents are choosing to go for the shortened or more familiar version of the names. I love this fashion for vintage names and predict that it will continue well into 2016.
Vintage Boys Names I predict will be popular in 2016 are....
Edward - Ted, Teddy
Albert - Albie, Bertie
Stanley - Stan
Leonard -Leo, Lennie
Francis - Frank,
Herbert - Herbie
And popular vintage girls name predictions for 2016 are....
Maud - Maudie
Margaret - Maggie
Edith - Edie
Emily - Emmie
Constance - Connie
Dorothy - Dot, Dottie
Beatrice - Beaty
To all new parents or parents to be, it's a huge undertaking choosing your new baby's name so I hope there is something here that inspires you!
