Crossing the rickety bridge to the private Isle of Eriska you get the feeling you may be about to infiltrate the land of Narnia. Perched on the west coast of Scotland in 350 acres of manicured gardens, woodland and rugged beaches, against a stunning rural landscape, Eriska lulls you into an immediate state of calm. A nature lovers nirvana, wildlife is abundant - you'll spot red deer, badgers, falcons - take a walk down to the beach and you may spot the island's resident otters. If you're looking for rural rambles, bountiful wildlife and absolute escapism, this may just be your perfect haven.
The Room - Mull
All rooms in the main house are named after local islands and traditional in decor - we stayed in Mull and on a clear day you can see across to the isle. Whilst accommodation is luxurious you won't find a room service menu, mini bar or Nepresso machine - the feel is that of a guest suite in a private house. Coffee is delivered to your door in the morning and complimentary in the lounge areas. Guests can choose between the main house, two bedroom self catering cottages or one of the island's new luxury spa suites - complete with private gardens and hot tubs.
The Stables Spa
A short stroll from the main house through the spa gardens, thriving with sage, lavender and rosemary - utilised in some of the treatments - The Stables Spa features 5 treatment rooms, a 17 metre pool, Jacuzzi, steam, sauna and a mud rassuoul. The woodland-inspired treatment rooms bring the idyllic surroundings in and, utilising local ingredients, including indigenous seaweed, the spa aims to deliver a unique Scottish wellbeing experience.
The Treatment
The Ishga Seaweed Body Wrap begins with a powerful Hebridean sea salt and oil scrub to remove dead skin cells followed by an application of pure seaweed gel to hydrate the skin. A cellophane wrap is used to eliminate toxins and stays on for around 30 minutes - if you're prone to claustrophobia you can ask the therapist to leave your arms free. An invigorating shower to remove the gel is followed by a relaxing aromatherapy massage. My skin is left exfoliated and silky smooth and the benefits out way the slightly lingering seaweed smell.
Other treatments include: ISHGA Seaweed Poultice Massage, Discover ESPA Facial, paraffin wax manicures and pedicures, Leg Reviver and Oriental Head Massage, ESPA Salt and Oil Scrub.
To Eat
The Michelin star dining room in the main house serves delicious local, British and European cuisine - be sure to try the hand dived Orkney scallops and look out for Eriska's famous Farmhouse Cheese Trolley offering a selection of over 40 cheeses. The Deck Restaurant serves up juices, salads, local fish and pasta in an informal setting with sea views.
