A man has been arrested on suspicion of taking a picture of Ian Paisley in his hospital bed.

The 85-year-old former Northern Ireland First Minister is recovering from a serious illness in the Ulster Hospital outside Belfast.

The 41-year-old man detained is believed to be a staff member.

Police said he was arrested as part of an investigation into an allegation of misconduct in a public office.

He has been released on bail pending further inquiries.

Earlier this week Dr Paisley's son Ian Paisley Jnr said he was doing "very well" in hospital.

He was taken to the Ulster Hospital at Dundonald at the start of the month suffering from apparent heart failure. At one stage he was in intensive care.

Known as Lord Bannside since he was made a peer in 2010, he fell ill just 10 days after preaching his final sermon as a church minister.

Mr Paisley is a former moderator and founding member of the Free Presbyterian Church and was MP for north Antrim for almost 40 years.

It depends upon the country. Different countries, different laws.

Jail .... for taking a picture? Could have confiscated the film, or else deleted the photo from the digital camera. Could give him a fine. But that is not jail-worthy. Perspective!

If that is the law in that country, then that is how it goes.

One cannot apply jurisprudence equally across all countries.

I don't mind anybody that gets arrested for taking pictures of anybody with thier consent however when somebody just illegally enters my house then its a different story..I do however believe that a security camera that catches somebody thats not invited or has no permision in my living dwelling without permiion should be prosecuted also..this guy knew that he was not supposed to be tking pictures of the patient and he should be prosecuted..

That's pretty grim.

People only have one motive when they're creeping around hospitals, trying to take photos of very ill and vulnerable public figures - money. I can't stand Paisley, but nobody should be taken advantage of in this way.

"arrested on suspicion of taking a picture of Ian Paisley"

When did taking a picture of Ian Paisley become a crime?
Is there a statute of limitations, or will thousands of journalists and people who attended political rallies now be arrested too?
