An astounding new photograph of Saturn shows just how small even its largest moon, Titan, is compare to the ringed planet's huge girth.

Titan seems inconsequential hovering to the right of the gas giant, spotted by the Cassini spacecraft.

Titan is no slouch. It's a sizeable 5,150 kilometers across, or twice the length of the Great Barrier Reef.

There's two more moons in the shot - Prometheus and Pandora. Prometheus is the tiny white spot above the rings in the far upper right of the image.

Prometheus casts a shadow onto the planet, creating a black speck on the far left of the shot.

Pandora also casts a shadow across the south of the planet, beneath the rings.

Take a look at ten more amazing shots of Saturn below.

It's name comes from Greek mythology, meaning a brother of Saturn. The Earth would'nt look much bigger next to Saturn, maybe 3 times that size.

Why is such a small planet called TITAN?

Because a Titan doesn't have to be large, it also means great strength or importance so I assume it's named after one of those reasons.
