Tony Armstrong is the Chief Executive of Locality, the national network of community-led organisations, working together to help neighbourhoods to thrive. Locality also runs the My Community website, as well as major national programmes to support and empower local communities and help people to exercise their Community Rights.
Less than two weeks into the New Year, we might look forward to 2016 as the year of the 'devolution revolution' - with the Chancellor George Osborne playing the starring role as we all take to the barricades to reclaim our communities from centuries of centralisation.
Localism hands power to people. Decades of decisions being taken at a central level and then imposed on communities have been turned on their heads in recent years and people are now reaping the benefits.
As negotiations over English devolution rumble on, local communities need to make sure they are banging the drum for neighbourhoods and making enough noise so they are not overlooked in the biggest shake up of local government in a generation.
Allotments are wonderful things, aren't they? They mean that even if you live in a big city you can get outside and feel the sun (or rain) on your back as you nurture fresh, healthy food for your dinner table...
