Ahead of last night’s BBC Panorama episode on the US Presidential election, Jeremy Paxman gave his succinct and typically blunt appraisal of Trump v Clinton.

The veteran broadcaster travelled to the USA to “understand how America’s great democracy has come to face such an unpopular choice”.

Speaking on Radio 4’s Today programme on Monday morning, Paxman attempted to explain what so many Brits can’t quite get a grasp on - who would vote for Trump and why is Hillary Clinton so hated?

(Jim Messina was campaign manager for Barak Obama during his successful 2012 presidential campaign and spoke as part of a pre-recorded preview of the programme.)

Paxman on Trump v Clinton: Divided America aired Monday at 21:00 on BBC One.
