A coming-of-age comedy set in Nazi Germany has won the People's Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival. Every winner of the award for the last 10 years has gone on to be nominated for best picture at the Oscars. Jojo Rabbit follows a young boy growing up during World War II whose imaginary friend is Adolf Hitler – played by Taika Waititi, who also directs the film.
We have come some way since #OscarsSoWhite, but have further to go still, and the issue lies in changing the structure of the institution.
Richard E Grant is really making the most of the awards season on his way to the Oscars, taking selfies with every other star he could get. The 2019 Oscar nominations have been announced, with “The Favourite” and “Roma” leading the race. Richard E. Grant has been nominated for the first time, for best supporting actor and Netflix has their first ever nomination for best picture, with “Roma”.
The ex-House of Cards actor allegedly assaulted a teenager at a Boston bar in 2016.
Comedian Kevin Hart has chosen to step down as Oscars host after being given an ultimatum by the Academy: keep the gig but apologise for homophobic tweets he posted over seven years ago. Hart refused, explaining his choice in an Instagram post.
