PRESS ASSOCIATION -- A police officer has been shot in the arm while chasing three men in South Croydon, Scotland Yard said.
The male Pc was hit by a bullet when one of the suspects opened fire on officers in Kingsdown Avenue at around 10pm on Friday.
His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
Three men have been arrested in connection with the incident and are in custody at separate south London police stations, The Metropolitan Police said.
Officers were called to the street following reports of a group of men acting suspiciously.
A force spokesman said: "Officers attended and on arrival three suspects ran off. As officers chased the suspects on foot, one suspect produced a handgun and shots were fired.
"One officer, a male Pc, sustained an arm injury."
The unnamed Pc was taken to a south London hospital for treatment.
Detectives from Operation Trident, which deals with gun crime in the black community, have been informed about the incident.
Pc Nigel Albuery, 34, was stabbed after stopping a gang of youths while on a plain clothes patrol in Bute Road, Waddon, Croydon, on May 19.
