It sweats like a trooper and does press-ups too, but you won't see Petman the human-form robot take to the field any time soon.
This peaceful bot by Boston Dynamics is designed to test clothing worn by soldiers.
The first anthropomorphic robot that moves like a real person, Protection Ensemble Test Mannequin was created for the US Army, to put chemical warfare suits through their paces.
Petman took 13 months to design and 17 months to build and was delivered to the military this year.
"There are all sorts of things robots like PETMAN could be used for. Any place that has been designed for human access, mobility, or manipulation skills," the company's vice president of engineering Dr. Robert Playter told IEEE Spectrum.
"Places like the Fukushima reactors could be accessed by PETMAN-like robots, without requiring any human exposure to hazardous materials. Perhaps firefighting inside of buildings or facilities designed for human access, like on board ships designed for human crews," he added.
