Carina Trimingham, Chris Huhne's Partner, In Lobbying Row

Chris Huhne's Partner 'Boasted About Political Contacts When Looking For Work'

Energy Secretary Chris Huhne is facing questions about his partner's lobbying work after it emerged she boasted of her links to Cabinet ministers.

Carina Trimingham reportedly offered to use her political contacts as she looked for work last month.

According to The Times, Ms Trimingham told a lobbying firm that she had "excellent contacts... from Cabinet members to more junior ministers".

In her job application, she was said to have urged her potential employer to "make use of my skills and contacts".

Ms Trimingham told the newspaper in a statement: "As a former political journalist for 12 years, I have many friends and acquaintances in all parties.

"I have worked in communications and public relations, including with the Liberal Democrats. Obviously in any role I take, it will not involve energy and climate change and there will be no conflict of interest."

A spokesman for Mr Huhne said: "There is no question of a conflict of interest as Chris Huhne understands Carina Trimingham does not intend to accept any work that touches on his departmental responsibilities."
