A pensioner has died after being run down by a thief who stole his car.
The death of the 76-year-old in Larkhall, Lanarkshire, is being treated as murder.
Police said the man, who has not been named, had seen someone trying to steal his Land Rover Discovery from his drive at around 8.10pm on Tuesday.
He was hit by the car after he left his house in the town's Graham Place, Ashgill.
The Land Rover was later recovered in the Crossford area of South Lanarkshire.
A post-mortem examination is due to take place.
Detective Superintendent Robbie Allan of Strathclyde Police said: "Inquiries are at an early stage. However, I would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the initial incident take place, or who may have seen this black Land Rover Discovery being driven from Ashgill to where it was later found in the Crossford area around 9.30 last night to come forward and speak to officers.
"I am aware that the public will be shocked by this crime and I want to reassure the local community that we are doing everything possible to bring to justice the persons responsible.
"There will be additional patrols in the area and anyone with any concerns should speak to these officers."
