Jeremy Clarkson Jokes About Dead Chinese Cockle-Pickers

Jeremy Clarkson is in trouble again after making a joke about the death of Chinese cockle-pickers in Morecambe Bay.

Writing in The Sun, the Top Gear presenter made fun of synchronised swimming as nothing more than "Chinese women in hats, upside down, in a bit of water".

He added: "You can see that sort of thing on Morecambe Beach. For free."

In 2004 23 cockle-pickers drowned after becoming trapped by rising tides in the Lancashire bay.

Tracy Brown, a Morecambe town councillor, told the Daily Telegraph that the remarks were "beneath contempt".

"He is just trying to make himself look big at other people's expense. Many people around here were deeply affected by the tragedy," she said.

The controversy comes after Clarkson caused upset by joking that striking public sector workers should be "shot".
