An armed ‘terrorist’ group has blown up a gas pipeline.
The attack was on a pipeline carrying gas from the central province of Homs to an area near the border with Lebanon, AP reported.
According to Syria’s state news agency, SANA, the attack caused a leak of about 460,000 cubic meter of gas.
Further details have not yet been released, although the incident comes as Syrian troops seized control of eastern suburbs of Damascus from rebel control after two days of fighting.
Around 26 people were killed as 50 tanks and 2,000 troops rolled into the region, which is still under bombardment, the BBC reported.
One opposition activist said: “It’s an urban war. There are bodies in the streets.”
Head of the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, Rami Abdul Rahman, said: “There are heavy clashes going on in all of the Damascus suburbs. Troops were able to enter some areas but are still facing stiff resistance in others.”
