A man has been found dead in a house after police negotiators were involved in an armed stand-off for several hours.
Lincolnshire Police said a "significant number" of officers were at the property in Sutton St James, Fenland, including armed police, specially-trained negotiators and air support.
Officers entered the building in Chapelgate at 10.30pm yesterday, carried out a "methodical search" and found the dead body of a man in an upstairs room, a force spokesman said.
They were called to the scene just before 11am after reports of a man making threats with a firearm.
Police said no shots were fired by officers and the incident had been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) for investigation.
A policeman was discharged from Boston Pilgrim Hospital after suffering a minor facial injury during the operation earlier yesterday.
"The circumstances of his injury are subject to investigation and no further information can be released at this time," the spokesman said.
Residents are now free to leave their homes after a "sterile cordon" was imposed in streets close to the incident.
Lincolnshire Police said they initiated a "firearms response operation" after establishing the man was alone in the property and isolating the area.
Local people not already at home were asked to go to nearby houses of friends or relatives while officers dealt with the incident or to make their way to Sutton St James Primary School in Bells Drove.
Motorists were advised to avoid the village altogether, and staff and volunteers from the British Red Cross set up a rest centre for residents in the area affected by the road closures.
Yesterday, police said rumours circulating on the internet that the injured police officer had been shot were untrue.
Investigations continued into the incident and a scene guard remained in place at the property overnight, police said.
