A man who died after collapsing at the finishing line of a half-marathon has been named as a fitness enthusiast who encouraged people to do exercise in their lunch breaks.
Ged Clarke, 39, crossed the finishing line of the Reading race at the Madejski Stadium yesterday and was immediately taken to hospital.
Doctors were unable to resuscitate him and he was pronounced dead later in the afternoon, the organisers said.
Mr Clarke, who was married with two children and lived in Reading, ran a popular Twitter account called @12pmclub which was aimed at encouraging people to exercise during their lunch hours.
His widow, Estelle Clarke, told the BBC: "He will be remembered for his happy and thoughtful character, and his great belief in doing things to the best of his ability, something his family will continue in believing for him."
Friend Janine Lewis said: "He was a champion for a fit, healthy lifestyle. Not just of the body, but of heart and soul too.
"The irony, and tragedy, is that he died as he finished the Reading half-marathon.
"As Mr @12pmclub, he would send out motivational words just before midday advising of the benefits of a break from the desk doing something active.
"He inspired a lot of people. He contributed personally to their charities, and also motivated them forward with their challenges."
A statement from the race organiser said: "This is deeply upsetting and our thoughts are with his family and friends at this distressing time."
