Cedric Brown, One Of UK's Most Wanted, Arrested By West Midlands Police After Car-Jacking

Police Arrest Man After He Carjacks A Mother - With The Children Still Inside

One of Britain's most wanted men was arrested on Wednesday after car-jacking a young mother - and speeding away with her toddlers still inside the vehicle, West Midlands Police said on Thursday.

Sky News has named the man as Cedric Brown.

A police spokesperson said officers had come to Slade Road, Erdington on Tuesday to respond to reports of a burglary before the suspect fled in a getaway car and was chased and caught by police.

"In an attempt to escape, it's understood one dragged a female driver out of a Ford Focus and sped away with her one-year-old son and daughter, aged two, secured in their child seats," a spokesperson said.

"However, the man was cornered by police about a mile away and arrested following a violent struggle."

West Midlands Police Sergeant Nicholas Barnes said: "Several police vehicles were in pursuit and the man abandoned the Ford Focus in South Grove where he was arrested by officers who then spotted the toddlers.

"Thankfully, neither of them was hurt and we quickly reunited them with their mum who naturally was extremely relieved.

"Officers responded to calls of the burglary within minutes - the suspects simply didn't have enough time to get away from the location before they were swamped by police."

Police said they wanted to question the suspect, 44, over a "nasty" burglary where a husband and wife were tied up and threatened with a knife in Bristol. The incident was featured in BBC's Crimewatch.

A 19-year-old and an 18-year-old were also questioned and arrested over the burglary.
