Almost two-thirds of voters think Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt should resign, according to a poll published tonight.
Some 63% feel that he should quit, while only 12% thought he should remain in his post, a ComRes survey for The Independent found. Another 24% said they did not know.
Even among Conservative supporters, 49% to 27% think Mr Hunt should resign, the poll found.
On voting intentions, Labour is five points ahead on 39%, down one since last weekend.
The Tories are unchanged on 34% and the Liberal Democrats down one on 10%.
The polls comes after Lord Justice Leveson turned down a request from Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt to bring forward his evidence session "in the interests of fairness to all."
:: ComRes interviewed a representative sample of 2,015 British adults between April 25 and 27, 2012, weighting data to be demographically representative of all British adults and by past vote recall.
