WATCH: Lembit Opik Stretchered Out Of Wrestling Ring By Paramedics

Lembit Opik had to be stretchered out of a wrestling ring by paramedics on Saturday after a bruising encounter with a professional fighter.

The former Lib Dem MP was taking part in the wrestling show in Welshpool, Powys, but did not last long after being confronted by his old nemesis Kade Callous.

Wearing a red t-shirt and black trousers, Opik was lifted into the ring by Callous who then slammed the flailing former politician onto his knee.

After initially cheering the move, the crowd quietens down when the announcer asks if there is a doctor in the house.

Soon after paramedics arrive on the scene to tend to the injured Opik, who is then carried from the ring.

Opik was taking part in the event having first had a run-in with Callous in April. The professional wrestler was left unimpressed at the time, accusing Opik of being "arrogant" and warning him he would "hurt" him in a re-match.

Speaking after their first encounter, Callous said: "Lembit is a fame whore who came to my show trying to take my little bit of limelight. He tried to make a fool of me.

"How much of a fool would I have looked backing off from this weedy old man. Lembit, you created this situation. This is your fault."

"When you knowingly and willingly set foot in the ring I'm going to try to hurt you. I am gonna hurt you. I want to hurt you bad. Not because I'm in any way sadistic. But because that's what needs to be done.

"You are not a wrestler; you are not trained to be a wrestler. You are some D-list celebrity that thinks he can make a quick buck in the world of pro wrestling, I am going to cripple you."

It appears Opik should have taken the warning more seriously.

Since losing his Commons seat in 2010, Opik has made a series of increasingly bizarre moves, including forays into pop music and stand-up comedy and making a memorable appearance on Have I Got News For You .

Amid all his other activities Opik has found time to announce he was hoping to stand for Northumbria Police & Crime Commissioner.

He also recently called for Nick Clegg to quit as Lib Dem leader in advance of the next general election.
