A schoolboy has been arrested by detectives investigating a serious assault that left a man critically ill in hospital.
The 15-year-old boy, from the Small Heath area of Birmingham, was arrested at 7.40pm Sunday night and is being questioned about the attack on Friday outside a mosque at the junction of Somerville Road and St Oswald's Road.
Two men arrested on Friday night, aged 42 and 20 and also from Small Heath, have been released on police bail until a date in July, West Midlands Police said.
The 22-year-old victim, who suffered a serious head injury, remains in a critical condition in hospital.
Detective Inspector Stuart Kidd from West Midlands CID, said: "There is no change in the condition of the young man who suffered serious injuries during the attack and he is still very poorly in hospital."
It is understood a fight broke out between two people just before 2.30pm on Friday which led to others becoming involved.
No-one else was injured.
Police want to hear from anyone with information or who may have witnessed the fight; they can contact the Force CID in Birmingham on 101, or speak to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
A West Midlands Police spokesman said it did not appear that there was a link between the attack and where it happened outside the mosque.
He said: "This was certainly not a racially motivated attack."
