A guest on the Jeremy Kyle show has been jailed after he absconded from community service in order to appear on the talk show.
23-year-old Alister Lamb, of Dundee, had been sentenced to 200 hours of community service for breaking into a flat, but completed only one hour, claiming he was too busy filming the show.
During the break-in last February, Mr Lamb and another man stole, among other things, an Xbox game console, a television, a train set and a lavatory seat.
However, rather than committing to finish his community service, Mr Lamb travelled to Manchester to record the show, staying in hotels and paying for taxis rather than complete his court-mandated work.
Mr Lamb defended himself on the grounds that he had gone onto the show in order to reconnect with his estranged daughter.
Outside court, Mr Lamb said that: "I wasn't that good, I was really nervous. It was a good experience though.
"I watch the Jeremy Kyle show on the telly, so I thought I'd phone them. I was trying to get access through the lawyers, but I thought I'd try this instead."
However, the sheriff presiding over the case, Sheriff Tom Hughes, said that the order was given to Mr Lamb as an alternative to jail, and thus to break that could only lead to a jail sentence.
Sentencing Mr Lamb to six months in prison, Mr Hughes said that: "This was not a licence for you to ignore the order and go off on your own daft frolics like appearing on television shows rather than doing the work asked of you."
Mr Lamb has previous convictions for drug possession and for assault.
The episode on which Mr Lamb appears is yet to be broadcast.
