Nintendo 3DS XL Announced: Bigger Screen, Battery Life (PHOTOS)

Nintendo has announced it will be releasing an updated version of its 3DS handheld console.

The 3DS XL will feature 90% larger screens than the original - a 4.88 inch top screen, and a 4.18 inch second second. The hardware also ships with a 4GB SD card. Nintendo also promises the new battery will outperform that of the original, but that it will not come with an AC adapter.

The new console will hit Europe on 28 July, and America on 19 August for $199.99.

Nintendo has not confirmed the price of the new console in the UK.

Nintendo also announced that Super Smash Bros. would be released for both the 3DS and the Wii U, and that a new Professor Layton game will be heading to the 3DS in November.
