A nine-year-old girl has been treated in hospital after being hit over the head with a bottle as she made her way home from the supermarket.
The youngster was walking on her own when she was attacked in Govan, Glasgow.
Police are appealing for witnesses following the "serious assault". Detective Inspector Scott McMillan of Helen Street CID, described the incident as “an unprovoked attack on an innocent young girl who was simply making her way home from the local shop.
"We are continuing extensive inquiries and would like to reassure the local community we are doing all we can to identify the person responsible."
She was struck from behind at around 6pm on Friday, by a man who was wearing a "grey tracksuit" and appeared to be drunk. He then made off in the direction of the Drumoyne housing estate, according to reports of the incident.
