Toe-besity: Fat Footed Americans Opt For Cosmetic Surgery

'Toe-besity': Fat Feet Surgery Latest Cosmetic Trend

When it comes to plastic surgery, it seems there's no body part we won't leave untouched.

New York-based Dr. Oliver Zong told ABC News that enquires about toe reductions are on the increase.

Tummy tucks, face lifts and breast enhancements just aren't enough anymore. The modern surgeon's dream client wants to stream their whole silhouette - even if that means shaving a bit of their big toe!

Is this toe too big?

The doctor told ABC News he has labelled the trend "toe-besity" - and adds that a decade ago he would never have been asked for such a procedure .

The surgical director at NYC FootCare explained that although he was familiar with 'toe shortenings', the new requests for larger toes to be shaved of fat and bone took him by surprise.

"Some people have said they're so embarrassed that their boyfriends have never seen their feet," said the surgeon.

Of course, deformed feet could also signal that an individual needs surgery to correct a health problem, experts have pointed out.

Arthritis, bunions and hammertoe (when one of your middle toes is bent downwards causing an uneven distribution of weight onto your metatarsals, according to NHS Choices) can all lead to mishapen toes.
