Chris Hoy Leads Team GB To Gold After Stunning Performance In Olympics Velodrome

Chris Hoy: You Are A Hero!

Chris Hoy rocketed Team GB to yet another medal - and himself into the history books - after the men’s sprint team won gold against France at the Olympic velodrome.

He led Philip Hindes and Jason Kenny to victory in a day that saw Olympic and world records constantly tumble.

The final was given royal approval as Princes William and Harry, alongside Kate, as well as PM David Cameron and former PM John Major.

After receiving the gold medal from Princess Ann, there was an emotional moment for Sir Chris as he wiped away a tear following the national anthems.

The win cements Hoy's place as a British Olympic legend - and moves young Hindes and Kenny into superstar status.

Although very much the supporting cast in the media's eyes, Hindes and Kenny were central to Team GB's success.

Hindes appeared to be blown away by the reception from the crowd. He constantly looked at his gold medal and was held close by Hoy during the photo call, the veteran talking him through what to do.

On the deck: Hindes fell in the first race

It means Team GB now boasts four medals in the cycling events after Lizzie Armitstead (silver), Bradley Wiggins (gold) and Chris Froome (bronze) all added to the haul.

But it didn't start well for the Hoy and his team after Philip Hindes fell off his bike on the very first bend of the very first race.

Hindes remained on the deck for a few moments before regaining his composure. TV images appeared to show a problem with a pedal has caused the fall and the race was restarted.

It made up for an earlier disappointment which saw Victoria Pendleton and Jess Varnish disqualified from the women’s sprint after a breaking the lane change rule.

Pendleton told the BBC: “It's just one of those things that happened. We were probably just a bit too eager and excited for a ride.

"Now and again rubbish things happen and this is one of those days.
