Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher celebrates his 40th birthday on Friday and to mark the occasion Huffington Post UK Entertainment has compiled 40 fabulous photos of the rockstar since he and his brother burst onto the scene - losing the Britpop 'battle' to Blur in 1995, but definitely winning the war... if trophies were being handed out for sales, sulks and stoushes.
He's not going quietly into middle age. Earlier this week he was snapped being confronted by Spanish police for being too vocal as his beloved Manchester City lost 2-3 to Real Madrid in the Champions League. Last month, the world watched on as he performed with his new band Beady Eye - Oasis, minus his brother Noel - at the Olympics closing ceremony.
However, it was his role as the slouching but charismatic frontman of (arguably!) the best band of the nineties that still makes him one of the most recognisable figures of modern British music. In the photos below we celebrate the best of his on- and off-stage antics, which often came under fire and often featured a tambourine.
And yes, it includes the snap from the 2010 BRIT Awards when, after receiving the Award for the Best Album of the Past 30 Years, Liam swore while he thanked all the former members of Oasis - except for his brother - and then threw the award into the audience.
Presumably, Noel's card is in the post...
