The owlish image was flagged by conceptual artist Stuart Rutherford, who claimed he'd found the picture on a website run by a friend.
The effect was apparently created by dropping a pair of Hula Hoop crisps into a cuppa, although many wondered whether computer trickery had been used to enhance the effect .
He posted the snap on Twitter – asking “Who’d a thunk dunking a couple of Hula Hoops in your coffee would be so beautiful?” and it quickly went viral.
