A woman is being questioned on suspicion of murder after the death of a two-year-old boy.
Police were called to a house in Modbury, Devon yesterday after the toddler's body was found by a member of the public.
A 40-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of murder and taken to Charles Cross police station in Plymouth, where she remains in custody.
A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police said yesterday: "At around 8.20am, following a report to police, officers attended an address in Champernowne, Modbury, where they found the body of a two-year-old boy.
"A 40-year-old local woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in custody at Charles Cross police station, Plymouth."
Officers yesterday carried out door-to-door inquiries and a post-mortem examination is expected to be carried out in the next few days by a Home Office pathologist or specialist paediatric pathologist.
Detectives are urging members of the public to get in contact if they have information which may help with the investigation.
