The free-to-air satellite service Freesat has announced it will launch a YouTube app.
Access to YouTube will be available from March through Freesat's £279 internet-enabled set-top box ('Freetime').
Users will navigate the site with their smartphone, FreeSat said.
The ITV and BBC-backed service added in a press release that it had now sold three million boxes, and claimed more new households in the third quarter of 2012 than Sky and BT Vision combined (55,000).
Peter Sherman, product marketing manager at YouTube said in a statement:
"We’re happy to be working with Freesat so that Freesat users can now access YouTube from the platform. Our creator community is developing quality content that will delight and inspire viewers and we’re pleased to be able to bring it to people in new ways."
YouTube is already available on UK TVs via a wide array of devices, including the Apple TV, Xbox and PS3. But Freesat said the move would make YouTube viewable to a wider audience than ever.
