Adidas is pretty well known for innovating with their running shoes. And often in fitness tech, 'innovation' also means 'ridiculous'. But last time around, with the ultra-springy Adidas Boost, we were genuinely impressed. So can they do it again?
The Adidas Spring Blade is a striking - again, another word for 'strange' - looking shoe which includes literal springs on the soles.
The idea is that with the help of their angled elastic blades the shoes will be able to launch runners ahead with less energy. They're designed for short bursts of speed, rather than extended runs like the Boost.
The Adidas Innovation Team apparently spent more than six years trying to find materials which were durable and energy-efficient enough to make the concept a reality. The final design has 16 baldes on each sole, positioned to support you during your stride - and push you away when you land.
The Spring Blades will be released in August, but for now here are a few more 'striking', 'innovative' pictures.
