A mass shooting at a Chicago park has left a 3-year-old boy in critical condition and left 13 people injured.
The boy reportedly suffered a gunshot wound to the head that exited through his mouth, and was in critical condition at Mount Sinai Hospital, police said.
The horrific incident has returned the spotlight to gun violence in the city with the America's highest number of homicides.
The shooting comes just three weeks after Chicago saw an outburst of violence over the Labor Day weekend that ended with eight dead and 20 others injured.
Police have said that the shooting appeared to be gang-related.
Francis John, 70, was upstairs in her three-flat home near the park when she heard gunfire.
"It was a lot of boom, boom, boom,” John told the Chicago Sun-Times.
